The French National Institute for Industrial and Environmental Risks, INERIS, is a large public research institute under the supervision of the Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development. With a staff of 600 persons, INERIS has the mission of assessing and preventing accidental and chronic risks to people and the environment due to industrial plants, chemical substances and underground operations. Within INERIS, the Chronic Risk Division (160+ employees) focuses on exposure analysis and identification, hazard identification (for ecosystems and human health) and risk assessment. Areas of expertise include environmental chemistry, physico-chemical modelling, biostatistics and biomathematics, environmental epidemiology, economic analysis, toxicology and public health. INERIS has experience in managing large international projects in risk assessment. INERIS has been and continues to be involved as coordinator, work package leader or partner in a number of EU-funded projects relevant for the present proposal: 2FUN, INTARESE, HEROIC. INERIS is also involved in national projects on biomonotoring studies in children (ELFE cohort).
